Fair Trade
After all Masses on the first weekend of each month from October through June, the parish holds sales of Fair Trade coffee, tea and other products through the interfaith program at Equal Exchange in support of small farmer co-ops around the world. Catholic Relief Services is one of the faith-based groups that partners with Equal Exchange to bring Fair Trade-certified products to congregations.
In addition to selling Fair Trade items, St. William Parish has committed to serve only fairly traded coffee and tea at its parish functions.
Purchasing Fair Trade products ensures that farmers receive fair compensation for their products. In turn, the small farmer coops invest this “social premium” into the infrastructure of their communities to provide better health care and education and to support sustainable agriculture.
Because Equal Exchange offers the fairly traded products to congregations at wholesale–and our sales are not fundraisers–we are able to sell high-quality organic coffee, tea, hot chocolate and chocolate bars at reasonable prices.
We invite anyone in the local community, whether or not a parishioner, to participate in our Fair Trade sales.
